COP BEATS 17-YEAR OLD

Posted by Steven Goldman | May 19, 2017 | 0 Comments

In 2011, our founding attorney, Steven Goldman, represented a young man in a case against Officer Joseph Murphy. According to plaintiff Tyre Davis, Officer Murphy slapped the 17-year-old across the face with his badge before beating him with the help of another officer. The beating occurred after Davis asked the officer for his badge number.

Davis said his problems with Murphy began in February of that year after the officer arrested him for trespassing. Murphy slapped Davis as the latter sat handcuffed in the back of a patrol car. Davis was later hauled into the 46th Precinct for disorderly conduct summons a week later. According to Davis, Murphy said, “I remember you. You're the kid I smacked.” Davis responded, “Yeah, and I'm gonna take down your badge number.” Murphy and Ocasio then cornered Davis in an alley near the precinct and beat him so hard he lost his hearing temporarily. According to Attorney Goldman, the beating was caught on tape.
